ABOUT BILL

I was born and raised in Plymouth WI, the hometown of Sargento Cheese and governor Tony Evers.  After high school, I earned bachelor's degrees in Physics and Mathematics at UW Stevens Point, where I met my wife Kelly.

We moved to our home in Fitchburg in 1996, where we raised three children who attended Leopold Elementary, Cherokee Heights Middle, and West High schools. When our oldest was in second grade, we started the Timberwolf Trample fun run at Leopold, a cross-cultural, health & fitness based fundraiser for the school.  We continued to run the event for nine years, until our youngest graduated fifth grade.

I've always led an active lifestyle, biking to school, swimming competitively in high school and college, and biking to work.  These days you can find me out running errands by bike, hiking through the woods with family and friends, or running and biking on our wonderful trail system.

MY MISSION

Healthy Neighbors, Healthy City, Healthy Planet

Putting People Next To Places

40% of adults and 20% of children in the US are obese.

40% of Americans are diabetic or pre-diabetic.

Between vehicle sales, crashes, gas, insurance, road construction & maintenance, and parking lot construction and maintenance, Americans spend $3 Trillion annually on cars and car infrastructure.

We burden ourselves with so many parking spaces that we limit the number of businesses (a.k.a., the tax base) we allow into our city.

The United States government has set goals of

  • 50% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions relative to 2005 by 2030

  • Net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050

The solution to all of these problems is to build compact, mixed use neighborhoods, in which the most convenient way to reach a destination is by walking or biking. By participating in "the gym of life", people's health will naturally improve. Without the need for cars, we can reclaim parking lots for people and additional businesses, which simultaneously increases our tax base while reducing our maintenance burden. And of course with fewer cars on the road, we can chip away at our country's leading cause of greenhouse gas emissions and pollution.
